Biography

Lindsey Barrett is an Assistant Professor of Law at the Thomas R. Kline School of Law at Drexel University. Her research interests include consumer privacy regulation and legislation, artificial intelligence, the intersection of police surveillance and consumer technologies, and the impact of consumer technologies on marginalized communities, with an emphasis on cross-disciplinary collaboration. Her scholarship has been published in a number of law journals, including the Georgetown Law Journal, Berkeley Technology Law Journal, the Seattle Law Review, and the Georgetown Law Technology Review, which she co-founded. Her writing and commentary on consumer privacy and surveillance have been featured in Slate, Fast Company, Lawfare, and other popular publications. She has provided expertise to state and federal policymakers grappling with novel questions of technology regulation throughout her career.

Most recently, Lindsey was a Telecommunications Policy Specialist at the National Telecommunications and Information Administration’s Office of Policy Analysis and Development, where her portfolio included consumer privacy law and policy, content moderation, and algorithmic fairness. Prior to her time at the Department of Commerce, she was a staff attorney and teaching fellow at Georgetown’s Communications & Technology Law Clinic, where she advocated for public interest clients in technology policy matters before state and federal agencies and legislatures. She then developed and co-taught the Technology Law & Policy Investigations Practicum at Georgetown Law as a Fritz Family Fellow and an adjunct professor of law. Lindsey received her B.A. from Duke cum laude, and both an LL.M. in advocacy with distinction and her law degree from Georgetown.
